This is the second in the Texas Brand series and follows the youngest sibling Jessica "Jessi" and Lash Monroe who was introduced during the first book. Jessi had liked Lash since she met him but since Lash is 11 years older he saw her as a young girl. Jessi is determined to make Lash see her as the grown woman that she is. Jessi's plan works and Lash starts to have feelings for Jessi. But Lash considers Jessi's brothers to be his friends and he can't get involved with a friend's sister. Unfortunately for Lash, Jessi always gets what she wants.

This book was very similar to the first book right down to a bad guy and one person going to deal with the bad guy and then everybody following to help even though they were told not to. And when they are all there they end up in a
Spoilerbar fight in Mexico where all the guys are arrested. And Jessi breaks them out of the Mexican jail. And I mean bandanna over her face holding the officer at gun point and breaking her brothers and Lash out of jail
. And after all that, the reason they were there in the first place is never really resolved. They just go back home as if they weren't there for any reason in the first place. It felt like a lot of things were introduced for plot reasons and then dropped when they were no longer needed. I don't know if that is true but it felt that way with small things.

The relationship in this book also seemed sudden and forced for the sake of the plot. And although the overview says that everything changes when Lash discovered that Jessi was pregnant but he does't find out until really late in the book. Jessi knows for a little bit before Lash but still not enough to really matter much.

While reading this book I also realized that there were almost no other characters beside the Brand siblings and Lash. Jessi didn't have any other close friends. Or at least we didn't see them. And that was the same for her brothers also. I didn't notice much in the first book because of all the siblings. But in this book you already know who they were so it is more obvious.

This book was also another filler easy read. So if you just need another book to fill some time then this will work.

Plot/characters: C
I liked the idea of Jessi knowing that she wanted Lash and going after him. But when it got down to the details, I thought it was extremely naive to think sex could make somebody want to stay with you...so, it seemed silly to me that she thought that Lash would have some epiphany after sleeping with her. And Lash...we aren't in the 1700s where you lose your virginity and lose you honor, so you have to get married. That was one of the dumbest lines of reasoning in this whole book. Why do you need to marry her?! The big standoff at the end was dumb. Jessi running into a dangerous situation to help. And Lash running into a bar in an unfamiliar town with you gun drawn. Both are tstl. And how hey got out of trouble was all kinds if against the law and seemed stupid and unrealistic. So this book irritated me because the actions of the characters themselves made, imo, the book seem silly
Heat: D-
There were scenes, but nondescriptive. Only lower score would be if there none at all.

I didn't like this book. And I won't be reading any more in this series. I didn't like the plot, the main characters, or the supporting. I thought her brothers should have stayed out of her business.

Maybe I've grown up since reading the first book. Maybe this book just wasn't that great, though I choose not to believe it, but I expected there to be more than Jessi and Lash lusting after each other. Seriously, that was the entire book, with the exception of the Prologue, final chapter, and the Epilogue.

The writing was spot on, as always, and Ms. Shayne, I am giving this book a full star more than it really deserves because of this. A normally phenominal writer, I fear you missed your mark with this one.
