Wow, this book absolutely blew me away! I've been searching for a book like this for a long time.
I love the concept of two people coming together that you would never expect. I love couples, both fictional and non-fictional, that make you think, "How on earth did they end up together?" Ronin and Lara embody that. I love seeing Lara slowly learn to trust Ronin, and how Ronin tries to decipher Lara's mannerisms and behaviors.
The world building is excellent. I prefer being thrown into the story and learning about the world as I go instead of getting a bunch of random info dumps. Thankfully, this book does the former. You can feel the dark and desolate atmosphere that the author crafted.
Lara was such an interesting character. Despite her traumatic past, she learns how to preserve and tries to help those in her community. She's a very strong character, yet vulnerable simultaneously. She juxtaposes so well with Ronin. He's so gentle with her, but you can tell that he adored her from the start.

The world building was fantastic, I could really imagine it.
Robin was an absolutely amazing character, I loved seeing his personality develop.
I will admit that Laura was not quite my favourite FMC, but the story/world/Ronin was so good that it didn't matter.

Even though it's somewhat of an instant attraction between the two characters (mainly on Ronin's side), the romance is a slow burn with love that grows over time.
Ronin is a bot that looks human and wants to find his purpose. I thought Ronin was written so well, and his personal musings felt both robotic and real.
Lara is a human living in squalor, been abused by Warlord (the worst bot ever), and wondering where her sister is.
This is a long, detailed book that was more gruesome than I expected, but I'm still glad I read it. The main thing that I question after reading it all is why Tabitha, Lara's sister, left her alone after Lara's attack by Warlord. I felt like it didn't make sense that this supposedly loving sister would abandon her.
