I just finished this book, and I'm crying. It was so good, even though it was a rollercoaster of emotions. Be warned that this is set in a dark, dystopian future where humans are struggling to survive. There are robots that look human with s3xual desires and violent tendencies. Content warnings for r@pe (happened to heroine in recent past), murder, child d3ath (side character's), violence, etc.

Even though it's somewhat of an instant attraction between the two characters (mainly on Ronin's side), the romance is a slow burn with love that grows over time.

Ronin is a bot that looks human and wants to find his purpose. I thought Ronin was written so well, and his personal musings felt both robotic and real.

Lara is a human living in squalor, been abused by Warlord (the worst bot ever), and wondering where her sister is.

This is a long, detailed book that was more gruesome than I expected, but I'm still glad I read it. The main thing that I question after reading it all is why Tabitha, Lara's sister, left her alone after Lara's attack by Warlord. I felt like it didn't make sense that this supposedly loving sister would abandon her.
