Scholastic released the first 8 chapters of Call Down the Hawk as a sampler in June (full novel coming November 5), but just in case you missed it, here's the url: https://www.scribd.com/document/412369565/Call-Down-the-Hawk-Exclusive-Excerpt#from_embed

How do you feel about it? Is it what you expected? How do you think readers who have never read TRC will feel if they begin with this one?

I've read and reread and reread this sampler so many times. I practically have it memorized at this point. I love it so much and I'm so interested in the story and the new characters and especially WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH ADAM AND RONAN and I just can't wait for the book to come out. It's so weird reading this and knowing that when Call Down the Hawk comes out and I read it, it will probably be my favorite book of all time. Everything about the writing and the plot and the fact that Ronan Lynch is the main character feels like a dream (lol), like Maggie Stiefvater crawled into my head and figured out what elements to throw together in order to craft the perfect book for me. I'm so excited. I get to read a book that's going to be my favorite book in a month. I'm so excited.
ALSO anyone else remember when I read this for the first time and started crying because Matisse was mentioned in passing? Because I'm thinking about it now and crying again. Imagine Adam Parrish participating in an intellectual conversation about art. I would lay down and die. That Harvard boy. Adam Parrish. I get to read three more books about him. And RONAN LYNCH. Shut up.

i am SO incredibly excited about these series. ronan is my favorite trc character, he's so interesting and there's so much to explore when it comes to him, i've been dying to get more content focused on him. there's no much i can say about the sampler since it's only 8 chapters long and barely anything happens, but maggie's writing is still really beautiful and magical and captivating. i'm so looking forward to meet new characters and to find out if ronan is ever able to deal with his magical side in a way that allows him have a normal life. i can't wait for the full book to come out, i've missed ronan so much.
(also i really hope gansey shows up at some point, his friendship with ronan has always been my favorite)

Can't wait for the whole book! Loved the old and new characters alike. Looking forward to learn more about the whole dreamer thing. It's nice to see that it will apparently be no longer set mainly in one place lile TRC so let's see where it's going to take us.

8 Chapter Excerpt: First Impressions Review

This was the good and bad of Ronan Lynch: The good was that sometimes, when he fell asleep and dreamt, he woke with that dream. The bad was that sometimes, when he fell asleep and dreamt, he woke with that dream.

I can’t believe this book is finally coming out. Despite reading The Raven Boys a little under two years ago (god, has it been two years already?) it somehow feels like I’ve waited an ETERNITY for this spin-off series to be released. When I started reading The Raven Cycle, I went in with low expectations fully anticipating yet another cheese ball YA romance, but man was I way off. This enchanting, atmospheric book about friendship and dead Kings swept me away and by book two it had become one of my all-time favorite fantasy series.

I think Ronan Lynch had a lot to do with that.

He’s my favorite of the whole raven gang (with Blue coming in at a close second of course) with his amazing talent for dreams, deftness with a car, and the way he loves with his whole heart. Ronan always seemed like the gang member with most to say even though he never said much at all, and I can’t tell you how BEYOND EXCITED I am that this book is happening. I’ve been building it up in my mind for almost two years now and even with just the first 60 pages I can tell that it’s not going to disappoint.

Being in Maggie’s words again was such a pleasure and I almost forgot how much I love her writing style. I no joke saved about seven quotes just from the first 60 pages alone.

The opposite of magical is not ordinary. The opposite of magical is mankind. The world is a neon sign; it says HUMANITY but everything is burnt out except MAN.

Getting to know the Lynch brothers a little more was so great and I love the dynamic between them that we get a peek at. I was always curious about Declan and Matthew and I’m glad we finally get a deeper look into who they are. Plus, there are a ton of new characters—more than I was anticipating—and I’m a little in love with all of them. Jordan seems like such a kick a** girl character and I can’t WAIT to see more of her. And The Crying Club™ of course.

And Ronan and Adam guys. RONAN AND ADAM. UGH THE FEELS.

Adam. Ronan missed him like a lung.

I’m very concerned about all this talk of the apocalypse and the world ending?? So I will be very VERY eagerly awaiting my copy of the whole book to see how this plays out.

Fingers crossed
