I read this when I was little and I remembered correctly that it was good!
The German audio book is narrated by Katharina Thalbach and features pirate-style music, a great combination.

I chose this book to read aloud to my 4yo as it is halfway between picture book and chapter book. It's quite short and simple. As a parent I find it a bit boring. Mr Four didn't care much either (though I thought he likes pirates). In hindsight I think it would be more suitable for little school kids who can start reading for themselves.

Absolutely delightful. I got this book because I like other things by the author and knew my pig-loving younger sister would like it. It probably only took fifteen minutes for me to read this, but it was a very pleasant fifteen minutes: most books at this reading level rely on dumb gags and potty humor to draw in young readers, but this is a unique, appealing story with good vocabulary words, great pictures, and the kind of excellence that draws in adults too. It's a rare event for me to read something aimed at second graders and think, "I wish I could write like this," but this is one of those books.

Other titles by Funke are much better.

An early reader for those just starting out on chapter books. It's a pig who can smell treasure in the water. Naturally, pirates have thrown the pig overboard for not being able to find treasure. Away from the pirates, so does smell treasure and the pirates find out and they want her back. It's a silly little story and the 3 year old nephew enjoyed it. This is a simple story and it has some fun elements like treasure and pirates. The kids enjoyed it more than I did.

Fun little story with characters I could follow for a while. I was expecting my son to ask me to skip over the Barracuda Bill parts, but he stayed with it. It's not that scary, I can never tell when a book might stress him out and he will want to skip parts.

I adore anything Cornelia Funke, and her chapter books for younger readers do not disappoint!
