This one’s wild. It’s  what if Ryu Murakami had written the film Neighbors.

Favorite quote:
“Unless you had a legitimate sense of entitlement you couldn't really understand the beauty of Mozart”

A group of awful young men get into a sort of gang war with a group of equally awful middle-aged women; hilarity ensues. Over-the-top and laugh-out-loud funny.

I never knew where this book was going. It consistently surprised me in plot and tone without feeling disjointed.

It's okay. Coin Locker Babies, From the Fatherland, with love and In the Miso Soup present interesting stories with the characters being major parts, but still a solid plot to interest you. In this, I was interested in the characters but the plot didn't make any sense or interest me, it was very average and I didn't really feel an urge to find out what would happen. Nonetheless, probably still my favourite author.

As I started this book, I really thought I didn't like it - a departure from anything I've read before. But, my god, as the war of the delinquents and the oba-sans escalates, I couldn't help but be drawn in.

This is such a quintessential '94, because it's basically book about japanese Beavis and Butthead. Storyline is very bizarre.
