So I wanted to enjoy this much more than I did. Actually I was REALLY into it at first. It had this slow burn feel, things weren't being rushed, no insta love.... oh boy was I wrong about that. The whole book takes place over maybe a few weeks. There is a case that they are working, one of them gets injured and the other ends up helping him out as he is recovering.

The premise was good, and the initial set up was good. BUT at about the mid point things started changing, the female character who is strong, independent and serious about solving the case.. starts doing things that didn't fit with that original descriptor. I dunno, I was let down by the books set up in many ways. I personally like cop/detective stories so I did still enjoy the book but boy was it a let down.

Also, it wasn't a steamy book, so if thats what you're looking for this aint it. It has some pretty mild and very quick steamy moments..

Overall this book was a let-down. I did enjoy it for the most part but was pretty frustrated and different parts of it.

Spoiler thoughts:
Spoiler
First off our main female character was so hooked on solving the case and saving her brother. she's a take no shit type of girl who is independent and cares about her job. But then after one day of working with this guy that she thinks has a stick up his butt she is susie home maker.

She is a master chef with NO explanation of how she is above normal level of cooking. She starts cleaning for this guy and taking care of his kid. Wait, WHAT!? Like I totally get that she would do those things under the circumstances, but it wasn't someone being a good person and helping out. It was someone changing into a totally different person. But I ignored it because I hoped we'd get some explanation about her I used to be a professional chef level of cooking skills that came out of no where AND her total personality and goal flip. All of a sudden she is no longer interested in finder her brother, or doing her job that she took so seriously at the beginning..

Then they start having really intense feeling for each other pretty early on but I was able to ignore it a little bit at the beginning. It wasn't too bad at first. And then their love scene happens and I'm horribly disappointed by how quick it was. They have just spent days longing for each other and then only two seconds before their big moment is over. But thats fine I dont need a book to be steamy to enjoy it, I was just surprised and very disappointed by the set up, or lack there of. At least give me a build up before you fade to black. Dont rush the whole thing if you're including it.

Then all the really really intense love talk started. Now these two are soul mates who are totally and fully in love. Not questioning at all their feelings regarless of having only spent a matter of days with each other. Now he is talking about how he "knows she wouldn't.." as if he actually knew her. They are going to get married and she is going to adopt his baby after a week of time together. WHAT!?

And then, the case she cared about never gets solved. Her brother is still missing in the end... Also the crazy guy picking her as a mother after he spending a week with the boy was like, WTF? how is she the kids mother after a week of knowing him? Also I feel like something intense like that should have happened to her in the beginning to explain her big personality shift and desire to leave her career.. Then her suzie home maker stuff would have made more sense.

Man.. another book that I'm not happy with.

Kiely is a Private Investigator with her family, and Cooper is an FBI Agent working on a case that pulls Kiely into the investigation. Cooper is also a single father, and I enjoyed that aspect of this story. The mystery that Kiely and Cooper have to solve kept me on the edge of my seat and intrigued me from start to finish.

This is the fourth book in the the series and the second I have read so far. I have the books two and three on my to be read pile but I haven't gotten them as of yet.

Kiely Colton is a Private Investigator while Cooper Winston is a FBI Agent. Both Kiely and Cooper have been working to bring down the leader of a pyramid scheme. When they end up having to work together things begin to heat up.

I liked both Kiely and Cooper as characters and I enjoyed that they didn't seem like a likely pair. One thing that I enjoyed was the fact that Cooper was a single father. I'm a sucker for those in books. All in all this was a good read.

As always with these series we are left with a bit of mystery which will continue into the rest of the series. Plus it is a Harlequin and they can be a little tame at moments in regards to the heat and steam of love scenes.

None of that is a take away from this book. As I said I enjoyed it and look forward to the next one in the series. I need to know what happens now.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. This review was originally posted on Wickedly Romance

Wow, I did not realize the Colton series was so expansive! It’s fantastic!

Let’s see, this one was fun! The suspense was gripping. The romance was sweet and steamy. I like how Kiely and Winston don’t get along at first, but they grow to care for each other. It’s adorable how she bonds with his son and takes care of them both. Also, her sisters showing up at the right times was humorous because they knew she has feelings for him! I was very engaged in the romance and thought the suspense aspect was cool as well. I’m sure it would be much better if I had read all the books, but it worked just fine on its own.

Definitely a great romance with some suspense. Looking forward to more from the series.

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for the ARC. All thoughts and and opinions are my own.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Colton 911: Agent by Her Side is the first of the multi-author series I‘ve read, as well as my first Harlequin Romantic Suspense, however, I was interested in reading books by the author, Deborah Fletcher Mello. And as both my intro to the series/line and the author, it’s a pretty fun one.

Kiely and Cooper are both great characters, and while they are somewhat opposites, I liked seeing them find common ground. And the bits of Kiely bonding with his young son are adorable.

It does suffer from an issue I often have with romantic suspense in that I want a bit more of the suspense aspect. However, that is an entirely subjective concern.

I liked this book, and am interested in trying more from the Colton 911 series, or from the Romantic Suspense line in the future. If you love category romance and/or romantic suspense, you should check this out!
