I read this a very, very long time ago and for some reason didn’t remember anything about it so I decided to read it again especially with all the hype around it and how it’s one of the most translated books etc etc…

After reading it, I realized it was so bad I must have repressed that memory and now I feel mad at my subconscious for not protecting me from this again!

What a load of nonsense that was…

The book started off quite good actually - I was enjoying the first few pages until this spiritual / metaphysical mumbo jumbo came into play.

Talking to the wind and the sun and seeing omens? Seriously Paulo? I should have known better considering he’s famous for pulling that kind of crap!

Also, the research behind Arab and Muslim culture is sad. At least try to research properly. If you had, maybe you would have hit one nail on the head with something.

Oh but wait! Madonna liked this book and Will Smith said it was one of his all-time favorites! Who am I to disagree with that?!

Two stars because Jeremy Irons narrated it.

An odd little thing. Very parabolic. It wasn’t unpleasant to read, but it’s not like I was overly enjoying myself. It’s likely that if it wasn’t so short I wouldn’t have finished it. It seems as if it attempts to be very profound and a commentary on life and god and love etc… but it doesn’t really achieve its goal.
