This book hugged my insides. I loved the main character, Ari, and the characters who supported her throughout. Despite all the shit she underwent growing up and continued to deal with, she still showed up. It inspired me. It made me want to keep showing up despite all the shit. Some days are tough, heck some years are tough. Still, every day I wake up and attempt to show up because I know love wins. I know love will hug the pain like this book hugged my pain.

Hope you all find a book that hugs your insides.

Even though some parts were hard to read or fathom, ari was such a beautiful soul and the writing in this book was exquisite. Couldn’t get enough of this beautiful terribly horribly sad story.

the language is so beautiful and Ari’s journey is so engaging even though it is dark and awful in so many places. poetic, captivating, and both incredibly sad and incredibly hopeful. it did take me a second to get used to the perspective writing here- pov character is a young girl in canada in the sixties- but once i did i loved it.
