the small town romance was sweet. i liked their connection and how comfortable they felt with each.

“She asked me the sign for love and I spelled out your name”

“I looked down at the chips and then up at Archer, confused.
"These chips...they're all folded," I said, thinking I sounded crazy. Aren't those the ones you like? I nodded slowly, realizing he had gone through several bags of chips to collect the ones I liked the best.”

“What are vou doing here? I asked. You don't like thunderstorms, he answered. I tilted my head, confused. You walked a mile in the rain because I don't like thunderstorms?”

the author could’ve wrote the trauma aspect of the book in a better way. i liked the way archer’s problems were handled: despite having bree, he still second guessed every action and was insecure since he didn’t have any experience talking to people recently. he also explicitly said that he will need to take his own pace to overcome his issues. however, her problems were solved in such weird ways. she had nightmares that left her frozen for six months, but after talking to archer once they suddenly stopped?

“I knew I wasn't stupid, but I also knew I had a lot to learn. I read all these books constantly, but when it came to the real world, to the way people related to each other, to the way they acted and reacted, I felt like I was constantly playing catch-up-I didn't like the way it felt.”

the writing style wasn’t the best. it felt choppy and at times i had to reread a paragraph to understand what the author tried to say. there were minor inconsistencies that left more to be desired. it’s a shame - the story had so much potential, but the writing dragged it down. bree said “my silent man” and “my mute boy” one too many times.

i feel like they forgot each other way too quickly to have a good character development.
Spoiler the strip club scene, him disappearing for three months, her revealing his secret, etc, etc

it’s not groundbreaking, but there are some cute parts. i skimmed through some scenes because they were a bit cringy and dramatic, but it’s a really interesting idea for a story!

Great book but I could not get past the mental age difference. Yes, they were both consenting adults. But his age, mentally/intellectually, was VERY young. He was barely figuring out how to live by himself; let alone taking the feelings of another person into consideration. There was a moment when he went off to acclimate to life on his own but, for me, that was not enough time.

Although...
That is the only aspect of the book that I did not like.

The rest was such a great read. I loved that the book did not just revolve around romance. It showed what both MCs had/were going through and how they navigated through the pain of the past.

loved. loved. loved this book :)

I wanted to love this book, the characters (especially Archer) were charming and sweet, their connection and relationship progress made me so happy but the rest of the characters and "action" and "plot twist" felt forced and predictable.

By the 50% it seemed like a different book and writing style,  the ending was fast and confusing as if the authour didn't really care about the ending just the character development and the romanting relationship.
