I hated this book when I first started reading it. The main character is insufferable, there was too much sexual content for my liking, the dialogue is terrible, and I figured out both twists incredibly early on. It ended up growing on me though; it might not have been executed in the best way but the story was good, the characters were mostly likable, and there were some genuinely creepy moments that played out really well. Supposedly this is classified as “extreme horror” and I’m not a fan of that genre as a whole, but while it was a bit intense at times it never felt over the top or unnecessarily violent/gory. I think this author has a lot of potential and I’ll definitely give him another shot!

Ok, y'all this was one heck of a ride! If it hadn't been for work interfering with my reading time, I would have finished this book in one sitting for sure. I've come to expect nothing less from this author than to keep me glued to the pages and eager to finish, but at the same time not wanting it to end.
So, first we have Andrew and Bethany. They met while she was a patient at the psychiatric hospital at which Andrew works. He knows about her "issues" and the uncertainty of which Bethany he might encounter at each moment, but he loved her desperately. Now, with the addition of her kids, Alex and Peter, and her siblings Ruby and Gore, plus her eccentric, creepy grandfather, his days are anything but ordinary. And where does Gore go at night, and why does he come home with his hands covered in blood? Does he even want to know?
But, something else is lurking in the dark corners of the room. Something evil that seems to be an integral part of Bethany and one that wants him and the rest of their family out of the picture. The question is, what is it? What does it want? Is there any way to stop it? He'll do what he has to in order to save Bethany, even if he has to die doing it.
While this story addresses the struggles of mental illness, both for the individual and those that love them, it also has a high level of creep factor. Old Lynne will haunt me for a while, and there is plenty of death, blood, and over all body-shuddering creepiness.
This was such an amazing, deliciously horrifying read! Definitely grab this one!!
