men are terrible lol.
i most enjoyed the plots concerning the core four siblings and, later, their plus-one. you'd think they be the majority of the plot, but there are a lot of subplots that have little-to-no bearing on the main storyline, and i understand wanting to make this gigantic party with all these interesting people feel more alive, but after a while i stopped caring and just wanted to skip to the Rivas. it was overall pretty good though
book cover discussion: the British one is so much better than that of the United States, like the pretty sunset/fire (👀) colors, the serif font. unfortunately it doesn't carry over perfectly to the square aspect ratio for the audiobook.

Stunning story spanning multiple generations of a family who have known love and loss.

Nina Riva deserves the world and you cannot tell me otherwise. Nina sacrifices everything for her family, losing herself in the process until her family also become her salvation.

Seemingly doomed to repeat the mistakes of her mother until she learns she can stand up for herself.

This book had me laughing and crying and having to look away feeling second hand embarrassment on multiple occasions. TJR has done it again

Character building ✔️
Character development ✔️
Lots and lots of drama ✔️
Coherent and captivating story ✔️
Summer vibes ✔️

After the disappointment that was Daisy Jones & The Six for me, I have restored my faith in Taylor Jenkins Reid. I had so much fun reading this, especially towards the middle/ending of the book.

I loved this book!! I really liked the fact that the book was set over one night with each chapter being a new hour. This for me kept the pace of the story. I liked that from the blurb you knew that the tip of the story would be the fire so all events escalated towards that point, but you didn't know when that would occur. The events leading up to/during the party were intertwined with the story of the Riva parents love story and the childhood of the Riva children. The story was so heartbreaking in so many ways but the strength of the eldest sibling Nina shone through. I especially liked the character of Kit and her sarcastic dry humour brought light moments to the book. Enjoyed the story more than Daisy Jones and the Six and I read it in just over 2 days. Couldn't put it down!  Loved the writing style and the fact that characters from her other novels are featured. Can't wait to read more of her books.
