If you're hoping for a resolution out of this series, this isn't really it. I suspect that if Pratchett was still around, they would have churned out a bunch more of these. I found this to be a pretty decent entry, even if things just kinda peter out. A really fascinating setting, it does have that going for it.

The last of The Long Earth series. And it's fine a send off. Joshua ends up stranded across the Long Earth, a message appears from the stars inviting the Long Earth to join the Long Cosmos. And yet another iteration of Lobsang comes online.  Baxter had to finish this book due to Pratchett's passing, and I think you can tell. There's a certain je ne sais quoi that's missing. It's another rambly book, which had started to turn stale at this point. It all culminates when,
rather than jumping East or West across the Long Earth, Joshua and his companions (Lobsang, Captain Kauffman, two engineers and one troll, and stowaway child) jump North, across the galaxy.
. It just feels meandering, and not quite sure how to end. It throws a few new concepts at the wall, and one or two stick, but that's all. Fine to read as part of the series, but may not hold everyone's full interest.

A decent overall end to the series but a bit lacking in the initial spirit of the earlier novels. With some of our favorite characters missing it felt incomplete and overall a bit odd I guess...? I would recommend this series but did find that it tapered off a bit with the 2nd and 3rd novels and more with the 4th and last. Still good though and worth a read!

As with the whole series, the focus seems more on world-building with the plot being a vehicle to explore the universe. Enjoyable, and I really appreciated seeing another side of Terry and being introduced to Stephen Baxter.

A quick read, and a reasonably rewarding end to the Long Earth series.
