This read was very mixed and complicated for me honestly. There are times where I liked the book (loved Peter's character at times) and where I genuinely related to the characters too, though I didn't feel like there was much character development (maybe I've interpreted it wrong). Also, if you want to read a book for the plot then don't bother since it's mainly a character reflection driven book. One thing I had a love hate relationship with though is thr style of writing. I really loved the idea of this stream-of-conciousness style writing, however I hated how this consciousness kept on shifting from one character's thoughts to another without mentioning thay it has shifted so youll have to really read into it or notice it while you're reading. I will say it is unique though. For the ending I was really expecting more, as it didnt give a sense of finality, but I guess that's what the book was trying to aim to; which is by leaving it and open end for interpretation.

Even though this book is relatively short, it requires a lot of attention to read, making it challenging at times (it's even more challenging to try and reread a sentence, because of Woolfe's stream of consciousness run-on sentences.) But on the whole I found it very interesting to read, and once I got the hang of paying attention and keeping track of whose perspective it was, it was quite enjoyable to read. It's slow paced in the sense that the entire book takes place over the course of one day, but it's fast paced in that every page is stuffed with every character's internal thought processes. It is a very, very clever book.

never in my 21 years of existence have i read a book that is as slow as this one. if i wasn't reading it for a mandatory uni class, i would've dropped it after maybe 15 pages. if you deal with scattered or unpredictable thought patterns, this book feels like it's putting you on blast because reading the sentence subject change midway through with no indication, to a name that has never been mentioned before and will never be mentioned again, is so jarring that it makes a 180 page book feel like 500. i'm so sorry virginia babe, you had some really beautiful sentences in the midst of it, but it wasn't enough to make this book enjoyable at all. also the only interesting character in the entire novel died at the point where i was already wanting to rip all my hair out, so you can imagine my dismay. i wish we got to find out more of the fallout of that, but whatever. i'll never forget you peter walsh, you would've loved 'so long, london' by taylor swift

Mrs Dalloway is my least favourite of Virginia Woolf’s novels so far - perhaps because it is the most impenetrable. I hope that with further analysis it reveals itself to me, for the writing is certainly beautiful. I enjoyed the introduction.

I read the physical and audio book simultaneously and that was a lovely way to experience the meandering writing style.
