A beautiful and raw story of growing up feeling like you don’t belong. The art was stunning and I felt so connected to the narrator. I think the fact that this was a memoir made it that much more meaningful. I feel like I knew this person. Finishing this novel felt like saying bye to a friend and I read it all in one sitting! That’s how personal it felt. Beautiful.

I think that only using different shades of blue to tell the story, was an incredible choice. It sets the mood (gloomy, nostalgic, as we reminiscent the life and struggles of the author) but it also shows it's beauty. I shed a few tears with some of the last panels, and could relate a lot to the mental health issues portrayed in the graphic novel. I found myself reflecting in a sad state after finishing it, as I am still recovering from my own experiences too. The other topics discussed here were also poignant and saddening (racism, domestic abuse, self harm, suicide attempts, the weight of other's expectations on us, not feeling like being part of any community, not finding your place in the world, loss of friendships...)

A memoir that was heavier than I expected. Touches on lots of topics so check trigger/content warnings.

I thought this was such a beautiful read, mostly because I really loved the illustrations. I loved the way using one colour highlighted the textures and the blue theme matched the melancholy tone of the story perfectly - it's slow paced and it's a very personal coming of age narrative, dealing with some heavy themes.
