Review to come... I feel like not a lot went on. :/
Okay. Review time.
So, for YEARS, people have been saying 'you like fantasy, have you tried reading Earthsea? Man, you gotta read Earthsea'. I watched the mini-series that Sci-Fi had all those years ago (with the kid from Malcom in the Middle) and I was like 'nope, what a let down...' Everyone was like, 'no, that was BS Earthsea, the real Earthsea has never been adapted'.
So since I've been on a fantasy kick, and I found a copy of the book I thought 'why not'.
Having finished the book, I can tell you why not. Because it was a let down.
I don't know if it has to do with her writing or that I expected more... maybe it's a mixture of both? The book had little to no dialogue and the story was confusing and lackluster at times. All I seemed to understand is that some impatient kid who had the gift of speaking a lost magic tongue learns how to be a wizard. He then releases a demon onto the earth because when you do a spell that is a no-no it has an effect... and then the demon he spends the whole book chasing around ends up being himself?
What?
Like, what did I read? What didn't I get? I mean, I read DUNE and that was daunting as it is, and I understood everything ... but this book? I couldn't grasp how this book rocked the socks of so many.
I guess the people who see something in it, and it's following releases, have a world they enjoy. Me? I just don't get it and I don't feel like I want to rectify that.
