Fun whodunnit and a quick read (would recommend for a vacation read)--but if you're a murder mystery fan, very easy to spot the murderer early on in the book. I've seen a lot of negative reviews for people expecting this to be the next And Then There Were None. I wouldn't classify this as a locked room mystery as others have--it relies on all the old tropes in a predictable way and it's easy to deduce the murderer from the very beginning. There is also a fair bit of resolution after the reveal, so if you prefer your mysteries to end with the reveal, this book may drag out for you. But if you know what you're in for--a fun, if a little standard, whodunnit--this mystery is a cool (literally) setting with a good dose of squirming, entitled British-aristocracy-meets-modern-tech-bros. Additional content warnings: avalanche (environmental disaster/death) and a fair amount of profanity, if that's not your cup of tea.

I am a fan of Ruth Ware's writing and this did not disappoint. This was a fast paced Thriller ( I ended up reading most of this in one day) that had me from the first page. We see a company called Snoop go to a ski chalet to discuss the potential buy out of the company. As always everyone has their secret's and isn't who they say they are. On the second day they go off to ski and one of them ends up dying. To begin with they think this is a fatal accident but then slowly one by one they start dying. It is a race against time to find out who is the killer, and the best bit is that they are all stuck together after an avalanche blocks them into their chalet. This makes for great tension. I think that if you are a fan of "and then there were none" by Agatha Christie or "the guest list" by Lucy Foley then your probably gone to like this.

One author who fits the model of some books being hit or miss for me is Ruth Ware. I read The Death of Mrs. Westaway after seeing it hyped all over bookstagram a few years back and was really put off by it, so much that I didn't want to read another Ruth Ware book. My main problem with The Death of Mrs. Westaway was that I found all of the characters to be so unlikeable I didn't want to read about them. Also, I think that was a case where I had such high expectations from all of the hype that I felt let down.

But I kept seeing so many people gushing about her books, so I decided to try One By One & I am glad I did! This was a solid I really liked it from the Goodreads scale. I really enjoy closed room, or in this case closed ski chalet, murder mysteries. I think they really up the ante. While I won't say that every character in this book was likeable, I found it much more approachable and enjoyable then The Death of Mrs. Westaway. Also, this was a great time of the year to read the book -- very atmospheric.

If you are looking for a wintery murder mystery/thriller, I do recommend this one.
