This book really is like a big old cup of hot cocoa. Even if you haven't read the first book, Summer at the Comfort Food Cafe, like me, this is such an enjoyable holiday read.
The main character Becca is the first book's main character Laura's sister, and she is so easy to connect with. She is synical, funny although she probably doesn't know it herself, and she HATES Christmas. But she goes through an amazing character development! I love how Johnson made that happen in such a short novella (it only has just over 200 pages).
Yes, some parts of the plot might be a bit rushed or predictable, but that's what makes this book such a warm, uncomplicated and comfortable holiday read. It's good enough for me to reread it this year (I read it for the first time last year) and I enjoyed pretty much every part of it!

Like many books that are labeled as "Christmas books," the story itself has little to do with Christmas, but merely has a Christmas ambiance. I was quite dissapointed by that, as I would have thought that the holidays would play an important role in this book. That does not change the fact that "Christmas at the Comfort Food Cafe" is a wonderful book. Becca in particular is extremely dramatic and always knows something sarcastic to say. This makes for humorous moments. Yet it also contains intense situations that I did not see coming. I listened to the story with tears in my eyes. This could have been both from emotion and laughter. I was really impressed with Debbie Johnson's writing style. She easily manages to grab you, hold you, move you and make you laugh. And she provides a happy ending in the process. For me, that is what sets a good feelgood book apart from mediocre feelgood books. After reading this book, I also really feel like reading the other books in this series.

Not your usual Christmas story, this was a more emotional journey.

Don't get me wtong, there is plenty of jolly times, however Becca's story had me goibg from laughing to tears.

I get the bah humbug feeling too. I love Christmas, but have had years where ai hated it all.

I love Sam, he wasjust what the doctor ordered.

This was my first book by this author, and I want to read more
