I found this world to draw me in and wanting to understand more about it. Keera’s journey through it and living through her eyes from a drunk assassin to something much more was fascinating. The line between how mortals, halfings, elves, and dark fae are all worlds apart and yet intertwined at the same time. This book ended with quite the surprise and I’ll definitely be reading the second of the series, 4/5 stars.

I got to chapter 4 and it was just too boring for me. The FMC is obviously an alcoholic and I don’t love that in a character. especially when they are supposed to be this bad a** bounty hunter/torturer. Just wasn’t for me.

It kind of reminds me of TOG series - when Aelin is hanging out on rooftops drinking away her worries and being pitiful. But this drinking seemed like the characters whole personality. Again, it’s just not for me.

This is not the usual fantasy novel. This is a story about racism, about a society in which few are
privileged and those who do not fit in are persecuted. The main character dealt with her fair share of abuse throughout the years and despite all she raised to one of the most powerful positions in the army. A lot of heavy topics are reached in this novel, like alcoholism. The enemies to lovers trope in chef's kiss.
