I saw this book on Libby and just grabbed it, not knowing anything about it or the authors, but I enjoyed it. It’s not so much a detailed discussion of how to do magic, as much as a celebration of magic as an act of every day life and as an act of protest- some of the chapters simply discuss the magic of everyday life for a lot of femmes, like skincare and getting your nails done, and some of the chapters discuss the magic in reclaiming marginalized identities- be that queerness, disability, or race. The current flowing throughout the book is that of flipping off cis men, reclaiming who we are in an anti-racist, anti-capitalist, queer fashion, finding that freedom to be ourselves

Phenomenal collection of essays from all sorts of practitioners, from witches all the way to the non-spiritual who are simply finding magic in their day-to-day and how they can actively rebel against the systems at large. While some essays may not speak to you personally, some definitely will and will really touch your soul. Very much worth the read, especially if you’re looking for magickal inspiration that isn’t a how-to book or pre written grimoire.

I should have loved this book—it’s exactly the kind of thing I usually enjoy. But, unfortunately, it just didn’t resonate with me, and if someone asked me what I remember about it, very little comes to mind.

To be fair, some of the essays are better than others, and they’re all extremely well-written. However, they often felt a bit over the top and lacked believability. It was a quick and easy read, but I find myself struggling to recall the stories even though I’ve just finished them. They simply weren’t memorable.

I don’t want to judge anyone’s spiritual journey or the way they practice their craft; everyone’s rituals are unique, and that’s not the issue for me. My problem is that the stories felt both exaggerated and forgettable at the same time.

I really wanted to enjoy this book, so I’m disappointed that I didn’t.

This is truly one of the best books I have ever read. Each essay has something important to say. Most deal with difficult topics, and they address real world problems and pain. It is a beautifully poignant collection that I would recommend to anyone who feels ready to read it (each essay has its own trigger warnings)
