Lucy Eyelesbarrow is quite a lot of fun to follow- it's a shame she's only in this one book! I know some have complained about the lack of Marple in this text, but Marple is almost always one to lurk in the background while the narrative progresses, so I expected as much. My only thought is that the pacing lingered a bit compared to some of my favorite Christie titles, but that didn't effect my overall enjoyment of the story.

Yet another Christie novel that lures me into believing I'm clever enough to have put all the pieces together before the end, only to reveal I've falling into the same old traps!

3-3.5 stars. Buddy read.

On a train, an old woman wakes up from a small nap and sees a murder flash right before her eyes on a passing train. But, who will believe her?

This is my first Miss Marple story, and it didn't focus on her but someone she hired named Lucy Eyelesbarrow. The cast of characters were an interesting bunch, a little one dimensional, but interesting. The twist was a little predictable near the end of the book, but overall it was a nice read. Definitely not one of Christie's best stories I have read so far, but I've only read a couple of hers so far.

Really torn on a rating for this, because I did find it enjoyable, but it took me quite a long time to get through and I agree the fat could have been trimmed considerably. The ending was abrupt! For a story that spent so long on secondary characters, they were not given any closure, very disappointing. But it was a lovely mystery and I was gratified to have guessed the murderer halfway through and then changed my mind away from it before the end.

I learned a lot from this one, on dialogue and how to write a mystery most of all. I will read more Marple mysteries for sure, she is lovely. "She twinkled at him." I have no idea what this means, and yet I do. She sits around and does very little. Icon.

Miss Marple is feeling a bit tired in this one and it seems her inventor might be as well. Naturally I still found it entertaining, but there was a lot of plodding around trying to figure out who exactly the murder victim was, and the resolution was rather unsatisfying and out of left field.
