It was cute, I really enjoy the FMC and how these stories aren’t at all about her finding a happily ever after that includes a Prince Charming. She’s just a woman stumbling while trying to figure out how to make the best of life. This next book was set to remind us to enjoy where we see and stop obsessing about where we’re going and it did just that. I usually don’t love references about current life in the books I read to escape said current life but, it works so well in this. Great read, happy reading!

You ever finish a book and get mad that there isn’t another one in the series yet? Me either…..

Funny, queer, & an ode to fairy tales, A Mirror Mended is for everyone who grew up feverishly reading Gail Carson Levine in the ‘90s and 2000s. It’s still rare to find MCs with disabilities. Not only does Alix write them, she treats them like what they are - normal people.

I am genuinely in awe of how much Alix E Harrow was able to delve into and pull off in... checks notes 128 pages, again. The concept of the multiverse breaking was exquisite, and the gay yearning was. Painful of course, but well written, and I will always enjoy the modern day contemporary humor that follows Zinnia. I really enjoyed how we were able to explore Eva's backstory without it feeling like info dumping, and still leaving some things to the imagination. I do have one question though, why couldn't Eva and Zinnia have written their story, together, melding them? Either way no gays were buried thankfully and the shock of the red hot iron shoes still being brought out despite Eva having technically escaped her own story with that ending was so fascinating. I understand with how this entry in the duology makes it so there can't be more, but god I would love more...

I really liked this however, if you haven't read a spindle splintered yet, I advice you to read them back to back.
It was such a long time since I read Spindle, and this book just dove right back in without setting up the world again.
Which is more a me problem than a book problem but just thought I'd recommend that to anyone who hasn't read them yet.

Both books are fun and I love the main characters wit
Can't wait to see what fairytale will be next

Part two, Zinnia who is typically bouncing between Sleeping Beauty fairytales, finds herself in a new fairytale... one with a wickedly gorgeous Evil Queen.

Zinnia has to uncover how she ended up in a new story, how she can fix it... and what these odd feelings are that she has everytime she looks at the queen.

I love the Fractured Fables tales, they are short reads, super fun, and FEMINIST asf. I enjoyed A Mirror Mended even more than book one, and it was such a fun read. I can't wait for more in the series!

*Gifted by Netgalley & Tor Books - thank you! All opinions are my own.
