This book was okay. Some teen books can still hold up for young adults, but I wouldn’t read this again unless I somehow could transport to the past and was suddenly a teenager again. It’s kind of slow at first, but it’s a nicer read when you get to know the characters a bit. In the After portion of the book, I hated the way Miles (Pudge) reacted about the event. He came across incredibly selfish and I really just wanted to tell him to shut up.

Anyways, I wouldn’t say it’s a bad book, I just didn’t really like the directions made in the book with the characters. It’s just okay

I probably would of enjoyed this book far more if I were 14 years old. It's a great book, I just might not be the target audience. I feel like if the character were in college, were more independent, etc., I would have enjoyed it more. Especially since at times the writing style seemed very poetic and mature, but then the characters did or said something immature and it was kind of like, oh. BUT again I don't think I'm the target audience, therefore I can't critique it that much (although on social media it seemed like people my age and even older loved it). The book was pretty fast paced, I really like that especially as it seems to have gotten me out of my reading slump. The dialog was mainly fine. The only other criticism I will give it (and I don't think this one is biased due to my age), is that towards the end, the writing got very repetitive. Like okay, we get it. The characters also seemed a TINY bit flat. They really had the potential to be great they really really did, it just needed to be expanded on a bit more. I needed to really get into each of their heads a little bit better. And maybe that was the point with Alaska, maybe she needed to be a bit more chaotic and set apart, but still. ALSO, I hated the end essay. Was not a fan, it felt way too all over the place.
Anyway, the reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because it was entertaining enough for me to actually WANT to keep picking it up and reading it. I'm not sure if it's just because how fast paced it was, but I kept wanting to keep reading. The story overall wasn't bad at all, again I just wish it was written a little differently, a little bit more mature. I'm not even that old omg I literally graduated highschool a year ago. I just genuinely think that this book was meant for 14-16 year olds.
