I desperately tried to follow along through over-zealous internal character dialogue, over-the-top stereotypes and implausible plot lines—the key word being “tried”. I even attempted to reread it, convinced I’d missed something the first time around. (I didn’t). An ex-military mountain man turned commercial flash-in-the-pan star, an arrogant prick of an accidental millionaire and a boot-wearing hat-holding cowboy—there ya go. That’s the entire story. Oh, and a photo of a collared polar bear—mustn’t forget the bear. Now you know as much as I did after my two close reads, so you needn’t bothering reading this tripe. You’re welcome.

The concept alone should have sold me. This one sounded right up my alley, but I wound up being confused by it. I'm not sure what the point was, really, or what the central scheme was? Still, Horack writes characters well, and I was engaged with it - enough for me to be interested in reading some of Horack's other work. But you can probably skip this one.

Part of the Warmer collection from Amazon Prime. This one has possibilities for a follow-on novel, but what would I know! Two rich men speaking to a conservationist convention - one speaking about saving jaguars in South America and one about saving polar bears. And a young war hero is paid to appear at the convention. Is he being used? (free prime read)

I understand the message, but not why the author thought this plot was the best way to convey it.
