Honestly? Snooze fest. I found myself constantly in and out of attention because I would lose interest and daydream and then have to find the spot that I remembered actually reading to try and start again. I finally stopped at 95% because I honestly didn't give a fuck how it ended. I was just done and dropped it at the library without knowing the final dozen pages. I wish I was a person who liked Allende's works because EVERYONE DOES. I'm just not that person. I don't get the hype.

I'd give it 4.5 stars, if I could. Just as good as Daughter of Fortune, if not better.

I enjoyed it, but it doesn't have the power of Allende's earlier work. Many of the characters seem unfinished or incomplete. The story is engaging. I admit that I breezed through it in 2 days, which means that either a) I could have savored it a bit more and enjoyed it differently, OR b) that the book is simple and didn't merit a deeper reading.
