There's nothing coherent i can say about this book apart from the fact this book annihilated my very existence. Rf Kuang is a phenomenal writer who's so ruthless with her characters it's almost scary.

3.5 stars. Well written and compelling, but a little slow in parts. Book with war in the title is pretty brutal, go figure. Loved all the political intrigue in this book. Gives me Children of Blood and Bone vibes.

......I think I like this one even better than the first. It's the perfect balance of being plot heavy and also somehow character driven. This series is my perfect adult fantasy series and I'll never shut up about it. I have so much to say that I couldn't possibly fit in this review. I absolutely loved the examination of Rin's relationships with Altan and Chaghan and Nezha and Kitay. And the way Kuang was able to address that while a war is being fought all around Rin, when she was both an acting agent and victim....there were parts of this book where I had to just sit and process it for a while and then begin blowing up Amanda's phone with my reactions and predictions.
