This might be my new favorite regency romance series. RIYL the Spy in the House series or if you want something like Bridgerton with an edgier subplot

This is my first time reading, and finishing, a historical romance. I’ve always been a firm believer that they just weren’t for me but after falling into the Bridgerton craze I knew I needed to try again. Low and behold, this book shows up in a sale email and since Laura Trentham is an author I trust and love, I knew that this was the book that I needed to read.

I’m so glad that I did!! I loved everything about this story.

The innocent but brave heroine, the moody hero, the tension and chemistry between them, the action, a touch of suspense and a just the right amount of humor made this a really great read!

I really liked the first book in this series but this one just dragged. The plot felt so contrived and then seemingly just petered out into nothing. I would have liked to see either more commitment to the mystery/spying/action plot or the danger should have been scaled down, because as it played out I found it very unsatisfying.
