As an AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO), this was an obvious pick for me. What I loved about this book was that it was about the LEGO spill from the Tokio Express (cargo ship), but it was also about types of jetsam and flotsam. It brings attention to the beachcombing community and environmental groups working to remove trash from beaches. This book is also very visually appealing. Lots of pages have pictures as the background, borders, and of course, pictures of found items. The layout changes frequently so it's not monotonous.
I find LEGO's statement on environmental issues and their "planet promise" to be a little facetious. Having worked there, even just in retail, there's a lot of used materials that may or may not end up being recycled. This is a side note and just my opinion.
This is a nice and easy nonfiction read that would be good for those interested in nonfiction or in a reading slump. It's a fun and interesting topic that inspires me to do a little beachcombing next time a find myself on a shore.

A very interesting read. Easy to get through, laid out almost like a magazine. It definitely made me think about the amount of plastic lost on sea beds.

The book starts off with a seemingly light hearted story about finding Lego at the beach but turns into a thought provoking and challenging study of the long term environmental and ecological harm caused by plastic. A trip to a Cornish beach will never be the same again.
