this was amazing. i loved this so much, i haven’t seen the whole movie but it definitely gave me a perception of what the book would be like but it was completely different, don’t expect a narrative story with a straight timeline. it is a collection of thoughts that the author has written 30 years after the experience with a better understanding of herself.

I don’t often give out 5 star reviews, but this book is certainly one that deserves it. This memoir will resonate with anyone who’s been in treatment. If you know, you know. 🌻💛

The movie was already one of my all time favourites so I knew I'd love the book, and it definitely was even better than the adaptation. I loved the fact the chapters were really short because I prefer them. This was an instant 5/5 and a new favourite of mine. Some of the stories and the quotes from this book will forever be with me. Even though I don't have any diagnosis of mental illness, I felt really close to Susanna: I think that is because this is also the story of a teenage girl who feels disconnected from the world she lives in, which is something I have experienced and still experience, like many other young women.
