MASSIVE SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MASSIVE SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm annoyed. What's with this stupid rule that every superhero has to have dead relatives to make them interesting? If it had been done for a plot relevant reason, I would have tolerated it, but this just feels like Bendis just pulled out the angsty comic checklist. It's okay to try something different once in a while, guys.

As any Marvel reader knows, Venom makes for an amazing Spider-Man foe, and Miles Morales' origin story gets a final nail in the coffin (no pun intended) on this volume which makes it a must read in the Ultimate Universe.

I initially wanted to give this a 3 because it's not much in terms of a Miles story, but after some thought, I realized it does offer a really interesting look at New York and the Spider-Man legacy post-Peter Parker.

Cliffhangers are totally fine UNTIL you don't have the next volume ready to read.

A good book. Even more surprising since it had venom in it. But I liked the newspaper bits even including Jameson, who's apparently less of a crazy person in the Ultimate universe. Gwen and MJ hanging together and being so young is weird. And Maria Hill as a police officer is odd. But it's all done pretty well and makes for good reading.

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, Vol. 4 is based on the premise that a 13 year-old kid who hasn't hit his growth spurt yet looks and sounds the same as a tall, calm and collected 35 year-old, as long as he's wearing a mask.

A journalist thinks she discovered Spider-Man's identity, based mostly on conjectures, and manages to hit close to home... except instead of thinking it's Miles Morales, she thinks it's his dad.

She tries to get the info published, but Jonah J. Jameson refuses her because he isn't about to blow open a superhero's identity and expose him to a lot of shit, which is fair. And probably also because it's pretty obvious Spider-Man is a pretty short dude, compared to most adult men.

But the journalist is murdered by Venom, who is there like a giant, black, monstrous plot device. Venom, it turns out, has Spider-Man as his archnemesis and he decides to go after the falsely-identified Mr. Morales.

The drama piles up when Miles's family is caught in the crossfire
Spoiler and Miles's dad gets injured in a really bad way and might not make it, and his mother gets killed
