Some of the translation is choppy at first, but it hits its stride soon enough. The choppiness is natural when much of the book cuts back and forth between Copper's life and his uncle's notebook, and I still can't make sense of the second to last chapter's placement (or point, really), BUT the humanity and philosophy in this book are astounding and touching. I can see how it inspired Miyazaki to come out of retirement, again.

I loved this book. I read this book, because I discovered that it was the inspiration for the next Ghibli movie. So it was a must read, since I realised that. It was a very insightful and reflective story. And even though it’s set in the 20th century, it still very actual. It should be a must read to everyone. I’m pumped to see the movie adaptation.
