All-New Wolverine, Vol. 1: The Four Sisters, by Tom Taylor

Don't get me wrong. I'm in favor of Marvel shaking up its titles and moving incrementally to a male/female ratio of main characters that might one day approach 50/50, but I'm as dubious as anyone else about some of the change-ups, especially certain characters "replacing" other characters. However, I REALLY enjoyed this one. Furthermore, Laura's past, and relationship with Logan, as well as Laura's uncertainty about her role as "Wolverine," make the passing of the mantle more organic. Since this was done well, it also didn't feel like the comic book industry pandering ("If it's GIRL Wolverine, then GIRLS will buy it, right?").

I probably wouldn't have picked this up, except for the fact that I love Laura and X-23. (Go, read [book:X-23: Innocence Lost|299796] if you haven't yet!) I wasn't disappointed. This volume is a fun superhero action comic, which is refreshing in light of so many good, but dark series that have come out, but it still carries some of the seriousness necessary for the character of Laura/X-23 that also make the story compelling. I can't wait for the next

FAVE WOLVERINE VOLUME BY FAR from the sibling dynamic to the everything

----------------------------------

'You're the best there is at what you do. But that doesn't mean you have to do it.'

HELLO, I'M IN A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION

I was honestly not prepared for the level of awesome that this comic is packing. I mean, I know giving male titles to female characters and repackaging it is not ideal, but I loved it when Taylor and co. addressed it in the comic in the best way possible: by it coming through Laura's own mouth. 'I know there are people who disapprove...guys on the internet mainly.' ICONIC

Oh, how far Laura has come. I could cry thinking about her character development. She has a sense of humor! She's fucking cold! She's still instantly protective of others who can't protect themselves that just kill me now. Everything about this volume is gold and I highly recommend it.

Also, I fucking loved the panel in which she shuts up Doctor Strange with a look. THAT'S THE X-23 I KNOW AND LOVE

I haven't read any wolverine/x23 comics before, though I am aware of the character. I think this was a great introduction to her world and nicely sets up where the series can go in the future.

Only reason this isn't 5 stars is that I felt some of the characters were a bit one dimensional and this maybe could have been fixed by spending less time meeting some of the other famous characters of the marvel universe, but considering this was a fast paced introduction it doesn't distract too much.

Would recommend

I was reeeeeally cautious going into this one because I do not like Taylor. It was pretty decent, though!

Strong outing for the All New Wolverine. Couple of nice guest appearances along with a cool clone storyline. Dug it.

Marvel loves them some clones.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Here, it DEFINITELY works!
Also, much love for Gabby the Honey Badger. But then I've been told I just like upbeat characters more often, so I might be biased.
