I think the last time I read this I only read half of the book. Since I wasn't sure anymore, I grabbed it yesterday and read it again. It was funny, some were a little sad, but overall the stories were really good. Some were (especially Human Nature and Armor Of Roses) easier to understand now, since I did read the novels that came before those novellas and chronologically it made a loooooooooot more sense.

Great book! I really enjoyed both Etched in Silver and Skin Deep too! I might have to pick up the Arnou books too... that story seemmed just so funny!

Mixed bag, 2.5 stars. Read this for the Liu story, which was 3/5, and none of the other stories made me want to pick up the other series.

Inked is a a collection of four stories by four different authors. I'm only going to comment on two of the stories today as I'm not currently reading the other two authors yet. I read the first and the last stories in this book. The first is by Karen Chance and although it's not about Cassie Palmer it does take place in that world with those other characters and it's just as good as any of the Cassie books. It's about a female war mage who holds a shifter in her family tree but is not a shifter. I'd like to see more books with these characters.

The last story in the book is Eileen Wilks World of the Lupi series with Lily and Rule as the main characters. It's as good as any of the books in that series and I always like this pair. Continuity wise this story fits into the world before where I am now and I only wish I'd read so it fit in where it belongs but it's not a big deal.

My only complaint with either of these stories is as usual I wish they were full length books and that's a good complaint in this case as they weren't lacking I just wanted more of a good thing.

The stories in this book were good. I especially liked "Skin Deep" by Karen Chance, although I just might be a bit biased since she is one of my favorite authors.
Although I liked the stories, the only problem I had with them is that they were all stories that were off of other books/series, so I wasn't really familiar with the background of the other 3. However, I was still able to follow along easily, and might now look into the other series just to see what they are about.

Overall, I found this an enjoyable anthology - a great introduction to some urban fantasy authors I'd heard good things about but hadn't had a chance to read yet.

Skin Deep / Karen Chance - Magic-user Lia hunts through an alternate Las Vegas to find her missing werewolf boyfriend. While reading it, I could tell that there was a lot of back-story I was missing out on, but that didn't prevent me from enjoying the story. My only previous experience with Chance was trying to reach Touch the Dark a few years ago and not being able to get into it. Either my tastes have changed or her writing has improved, but I'll definitely be looking for more by her after this.

Armor of Roses / Marjorie Liu - This is why I bought this book - Liu's writing is so grounded in the dark side of reality that I find it much easier emotionally to read her novellas than her full-length novels. This takes place in her Hunter Kiss series - Maxine and the boys go back to World War II Shanghai to unravel a conspiracy.

Etched in Silver / Yasmine Galenorn - A prequel to her witches series, in which Camilla and Trillion meet while hunting a sadistic killer. This was my first experience with Galenorn, so I'm not sure how it rates in comparison with her other works. The way this story is set up, it makes me unsure of whether I want to start her Otherworld books - I'm afraid of starting an unending series full of bed-hopping and grotesqueness.

Human Nature / Eileen Wilks - Lily Yu and Rule go to California to find a killer who may have framed a werewolf for murder. I have to say, I read the first short story in this series in another anthology and *loved* it (Lover Beware, I think), then read the first full-length novel and was bitterly disappointed that many of the parts I had loved were removed. Apparently enough time has past for me to forget that, because I really enjoyed this and am thinking of starting over at the beginning of this series.
