All those cynical work related comments hit close to home. Made me want to get drunk too ...

Love it––humorous and wondrous in its own special way.

Don’t know how to rate this. My first Bukowski, recommended to me as a Disco Elysium lover. A raw, depressing and funny depiction of a working class alcoholic, roaming aimlessly around WW2-period USA.

Not the first Bukowski book I read, whose simple and direct style I often appreciated. But this book had zero charm on me. A constant repetition of sex, alcoholism, layoffs, and new jobs that always ended sooner than expected. All this without a minimum of change on the protagonist's behavior.
