It was my first Miss Marple novel and I did enjoy it but I think I prefer the long story format of a Poirot novel over this one. I didn't feel like I got the the meat of each mystery before it was solved. I can see why this character is a classic and beloved around the world.

This is a great collection of short stories to introduce a person to Miss Marple. I love that they are not the classic, go and solve mysteries but more stories where all the characters are trying to guess the answer. And, you guessed it, Miss Marple knows all the answers.

Since this is 13 short stories, I thought one or two came off as a little simple because they didn't really have the time to be anything else, hence the four stars instead of five. Overall though, they were clever and a lot of fun in nice small bits. I loved the frame story of a group telling stories and Miss Marple being the old lady that everyone starts out just humoring until they realize how precisely she cuts through the problems.
