Very slow; not what I was expecting/hoping. Thought it'd be more action than exposition.

Enjoyed it in a 'Jurassic Park' way - a fun, quick read.

A good suspenseful novel with plenty of plausible (read entertainment) science. This is NOT the Island of Dr. Moreau...

This feels like proof that anyone can write a book

It had some exciting moments and interesting scientific commentary, but it definitely felt like a first novel. I was hoping for a Jurassic Park, but I should have known that was setting my expectations too high! Still worth a read if you are a fan of the genre.

Plot sounds fun, but I really don't get along with how it's written.

It started well, but I found the long-lecture style of the science threw the pacing off. I felt as though the blurb gave the impression of a completely different storyline to that written. Furthermore, the author puts blocks of text in the story that seem too detailed and go off on random tangents. I was hoping for more of a story based on and around the island with more interaction with the animals described. I made it to page 201 and we had only been on the island with the creatures twice thus far.  Tried to persevere but unfortunately it lost momentum and started to become a chore to read.
