Meh. I tried to care, but before long I was skimming through each chapter. I liked the premise but not the characters — petty and shallow for the most part. It just wasn’t interesting. I’m being generous with my stars.

After attending their high school reunion three friends are determined to reach their superlatives - or as close to as possible.  'The Most Likely Club'  explores the power of female friendship, love, family and motherhood and was just the kind of easy read I needed right now.

What I enjoyed about this novel was the diversity and spread of characters as well as the exploration of high school friendship. I count myself incredibly lucky to still be such close friends with so many of the girls I went to high school with so it was really refreshing to see this type of female friendship at the forefront of a novel. Each woman had something different that they were struggling with or striving for which made for an interesting read, especially when coupled with the anxiety of a high school reunion.

What I didn't enjoy so much about the novel is the mystery behind one of the four friends, she really seemed to be incredibly absent throughout most of the novel, I also thought some of the heavier themes, such as an eating disorder was very easily brushed aside when the character decided they were just going to start eating again...

While this book was the perfect, easy read for endless hours spent feeding my new born it wasn't anything particularly memorable in comparison to some of the other reads that grace my shelves.

I would give this 3.5 stars and label it as chicklit. It’s not my favorite term, but it’s light reading with some sweet moments between high school friends. There were moments I really enjoyed their friendship, but there were moments where just weird stuff happened and then was gone - glossed over in order for something crazy to happen.

“The three of them lifted their glasses and clinked. It was the sound of hope. “To becoming our Most Likely selves.” Ch 7

“What happened is that the world sees women in power differently than men.” Ch 17

“The thing about problems is that they will be there tomorrow.” Ch 21

“It’s about how absurd it is in two-working-parent households that the mother still has to do all the grunt work.” Ch 23
