Beautiful book, reminded me of my fascination with being outdoors as a child and watching the world come alive in spring time!!

One of my very favorite books. I'm not terribly thrilled by the illustrator, though. His birds and flowers are great, but human figures are rather stilted.

I read this to fulfill the prompt “book everyone has read except you” for the 2024 52 Book Reading Challenge.
The book follows little Mary Lennox, an orphaned, bratty little girl sent to live with her next of kin in the wild, windy moors of Yorkshire, England. She meets other characters along the way and they all grow and heal in the magical, secret garden.
The book is well over 100 years old so I won’t go into some of its cultural insensitivities. It’s written for bored English schoolchildren to encourage them to go outside and play. It’s a charming little story about finding and cultivating love, friendship, and happiness.

Was surprised how down on India the story was. The story is good and full of childish wonder.

What a lovey story and at times quite funny. I enjoyed the Yorkshire accent! It dragged on for a bit though (could have been a tad shorter) and I found the lack of love (Mary’s parents + Mr. Craven) quite disturbing with it being a book for younger children (+8).

I really enjoyed this classic. Fairly quick read with enjoyable characters, each of which has distinct, recognizable traits that can be learned from. My first read on my new Nook Color!

I onyl read this book because my mother found it at work and gave it to me. It looked fairly small which meant a fast read. normally I wouldnt read a classic since its not really my style. But I am really happy I read this book its a great book for children, I can actually imagine myself reading this as some kind of bedtime story to my children.
