Boring but well writen.

Technically didn't finish, but I watched the movie and a bunch of video essays on the last 100 pages so I think I know enough to rate it.

I was pleased with how quickly it felt the story got going, then it lulled, then I was enthralled through to the end. Very short “chapter” breaks let us switch between two main and a few other characters’ perspectives. Time jumps can be tricky to keep straight but this is all done effectively: keeping the story interesting and avoiding giving too much away. The war is a backdrop as the setting and reason for the events unfolding as they do- I wouldn’t describe it as a WWII book. Instead, it is a historical fiction playing with the magic of radio communication. The the title of the is very fitting. A clever novel

This book, albeit a bit confusing because timelines like to switch around, was beautiful! I love how the author makes us feel for the characters and allows us to connect with them.

This book was beautifully written at times. The plot dragged and I’m not sure how it won a Pulitzer.
And by the end it has you sympathizing with a damn Nazi which had me feeling very uncomfortable.
Don’t read unless you like historical war fiction.

I did like this book, but it was a slow read, and I struggled with how I felt about one of the main characters. I didn’t like what he was doing but at the same time, I knew he had no choice, and ultimately was very sad at what ended up happening. It’s not often that a book can shock me, and this one SHOOK me at the ending. Overall, I liked it but I wouldn’t reread and I wish it would have had an underlying subplot to make it more interesting.
