What a fucking roller coaster ride. I laughed and I wept and did everything in between. Tully & Kate are lovable and detestable at the same time, which is to say they are human. The story arc is so pleasant. The subtle nods to different music was a nice bonus for me as a music lover. The end is devastating, though, so prepare with loads of tissues.

I was quite disappointed after watching the tv show. Their friendship is not near as nice and I don’t even truly understand how they are friends in the book. They don’t communicate and hold resentment over each other constantly. I liked the ending though, the last 50 pages truly showed the best in their relationship and if the whole book were like that I would be OBSESSED with this book.

Heart wrenching story about the lives of two best friends. Watch them live their lives from their teen years to middle aged adulthood.
Such a touching & heartwarming relationship. Expresses the power of friendship.

This is my 5th Kristin Hannah novel - and probably near the top of my list. Yes - we can all agree that Hannah really draws out the dramatic in her story telling - but that's where she excels. There is in a emotional current that runs through her novels that is incredibly consistent. She is excellent and writing characters you either love or hate, or both and this is exactly how I felt about Tully and Kate.
Tully with her narcissistic, generational trauma and Kate with her desire to keep everyone around her happy. I wanted to scream at Kate to SPEAK up while simultaneously holding my hand over Tully's mouth.

My only complaint is that I feel like Hannah leaves a lot on the table - but maybe that will be answered in the follow up to this book.

This is a coming of age story about two best friends spanning from the 70s into the early millennium.
Tully is the beautiful, ambitious, career driven, outspoken one and Kate is the understated, self conscious, motherly one. Each of them looks at the other’s life with envy of the things they don’t have. For Tully, that’s a family who loves her unconditionally. And Kate wishes for Tully’s boundless freedom.
TullyandKate pull each other through everything from boys and fashion to heartbreak and sickness.
I have always been a fan of Kristin Hannah’s writing and this was certainly no different. I cried my way through this book! Just when I thought I had been wrecked for the last time something else happened.
I loved the characters- I related to Kate so much! She is just a girl trying to stay afloat.
TW: rape, terminal illness, critical injury, some usage of the f word
