Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder in this clever picturebook. Edward the Giraffe worries that his neck is just too necky! He feels so bad about his neck and goes to great lengths to disguise it or hide it! It is not until he meets Cyrus the turtle that he gains a new perspective on his neck. I loved this book for so many reason, mainly cause giraffes are my spirit animal and I think they are beautiful. But I also loved the wonderful friendship, humor, and clever wording in the book. Great conversation starter about loving the things that make you uniquely you.

"Giraffe Problems" is the story of Edward who hates his long neck. He wants to be like the lion, or the zebra, or the elephant. All he can see are his imperfections--he'd even rather be a turtle! However, once Edward encounters the turtle, Cyrus, he discovers that other animals have their "perceived imperfections" too. Only Edward can do something that none of the other animals can.

The illustrations are very very nice. They are more of a brown color palate which I don't often see in children's books. They are muted which is actually refreshing. It's a story about embracing uniqueness because what child doesn't have something they dislike about themselves. (Mine was being petite for SO long)

Only critique is that it is a bit long for storytime. (I'm going to try it anyway.) I think it will work well, though, for one on one reading.

This book starts off kind of irritating. It is repetitive and a bit boring. And really the art does it no favors. And then the giraffe meets a friend and gains a friend and kind of redeems itself. So it could have been a bit better but certainly ended up not being bad. 3.5 of 5.
