I got this for free as part of Stuff Your Kindle Day. This seems to have been written as catharsis for the author regarding her own past with extremist religions, which I can certainly respect. However, the books seems to eschew real narrative or character development for the sake of smut and proselytizing about the harms of said extremist religions. Mind you, both of these things aren't poorly written, they just, again, seem to take precedence over everything else. There's also not much romance to be seen—Karma does take time before she "accepts" her bonds, but because there's so many partners there's simple not enough time to build these things up before she's suddenly in love (which I find is fairly common with the "fated mates" trope in general). I also found the plot we do get with
Sampson, Junior, and Val's father having plotted Val and Karma meeting
to be pretty nonsensical.

For a book that seemed at times to give in to the spice, there was a surprising amount of plot and angst in this little erotic romance novel. Karma, nee Carmen, was raised in a deeply fundamentalist religious cult and finally managed to escape after college, where she met her best friend Val, whose family ties her into a dark criminal world she wishes to spare Karma from. Karma isn't having it. She secretly trains and becomes a dark avenger-type character, taking out baddies and rescuing innocents. "Where you go, I go," is the theme of their romance, although it takes Karma ten long years to finally call it what it is. Unfortunately, Karma's untimely death sends her to Hell before she and Val have a chance to spend a happy life together, and Karma gets a speedrun-introduction to demonic fated mates, of which she learns she now has three, one of whom is the King of Hell himself. All of this with a hefty dose of spice, naturally. It takes Val, shall we say, a little bit longer to come around to the idea, but there's a heartwarming HEA in the end, and it put a smile on my face. This book felt like a goddess origin story, like there is a lot more going on in this world and more stories to tell,
Spoiler with Karma being able to travel back to the mortal world when called by those in need of her type of vengeance.
