First, I don’t think it lives up to the BookTok hype, and I don’t personally think it’s a good “get you out of an ACOTAR reading slump and give you the same feels as ACOTAR” book.

There’s not much world building or even really character building outside of Oraya & Raihn, and Mische a little. There is a complex world with a complex history and complex characters in the story, but we don’t get to really learn about why it’s all so complex.

3.5, enemies to lovers… to enemies girl i’m hooked. the ending was so unexpected i was screeching the whole time!
also side note acotar has ruined everything for me bc im always so afraid to be tamlin-ed whenever i start a new book lol

There she is! Gah! The first half of this was a little slow for me and it took longer to get through than my normal reads. The last 20% was so good though! The world building is there but I felt like I needed just a littttttle more backstory for the centuries long feud. I do love a strong FMC and Oraya is a bad@ss! I loved how strong she was and how she refused to be pushed around! She stood up for what she believed in and questioned things when they felt off. It’s so annoying when they characters are portrayed as strong but written as weak, defenseless things! Raihn was a good, strong MMC to be with Oraya. Strong when he needed and soft when needed. “You are safe” ugh! I loved that he did everything to prove she was safe with him even when he was spiraling. Proved she was safe when she wasn’t sure she was!

Now that ending! I did NOT see that coming. I knew they would both survive.. that much was obvious, but him turning out to be an Heir through me, and then she was an heir too?!

This book was hard for me to get into. In the beginning there was no clear world building and it was hard to remember all 3 Houses of Vampires. Throughout the book they kept exclaiming “Ix’s tits!” but you don’t find out about Ix until almost the end. I know glossary’s go at the back but the author should’ve put something at the beginning to help world build and make it all flow coherently.
