Oh to be loved in such a way. I read most of this book in the middle of the night, telling myself I’d put it down at the “end of this chapter” and never did. The writing is absolutely gorgeous, it’s like interpreting cave paintings found underneath intricate oil murals. I’ve never read a book that so perfectly captures the poetry of love and hate and the line between them. The only reason that I’m not giving it 5 stars is because of literally one line in the book which I will not include but you’ll know it when you get to it.

Wow… just wow. I have never been more in love with a book. The writing style, the story, the characters. Mind blown. I will now proceed to read every book written by the author. I am in LOVE!!!

The story line is a dark fantasy romance so expect enemies to lovers, slow burn, betrayal, blood, grief.

Overall: 15 stars out of 5!
Spice: 2/5
low spice throughout but one very well written hot 🥵 chapter!!

If dark fantasy romances are your thing, this book is the best one I’ve read so far! Give it a try.

As someone who is just dabbling in full-on romantasy (because don’t get me wrong, I love a good love story) this was SUCH a strong start. You can tell that so much thought has been put into the world building & the characters, and the evolution of their relationship felt so natural. I FLEW through this book in a few days, I literally could not stop reading it.

I adore Raihn, I feel like the whole time I was screaming at Oraya to be nicer to him 😂. but also, like Oraya, I feel a bit betrayed by him in the ending (but also understand why he…omitted certain details from her). Him and Mische brought so much color to the world and I’m very excited to see more of them in the coming books (because I hear Miche is the protagonist in the next duology).

Also, I will say - I am not a fan of gore, but I tolerate it much better in books because you can often sort of make it more palatable - this book is definitely gory but not gross (looking at you, The Devil Takes You Home)

If the Hunger Games and Game of Thrones created a vampire-filled child, that would be The Serpent and the Wings of Night. Overall a really good read, multi-dimensional, flawed characters in a vast, danger-filled world. With minor amounts of smut (which I could do without tbh) the story keeps you guessing until the end. Points marked a bit down for the ending however, though I’ll have to check out the next book in the series to fully make my decision.
