I enjoyed most of this book but was very disappointed in the ending. It reminded me of when one of my students starts out with a great idea and then just ends it so it can be turned in.

This book was interesting. It definitely was not what I was expecting based on his other work but i did enjoy it.

Interesting concept, poor execution. I was a hardcore fan of his Alex Cross series back in the day but had not read anything of Patterson's since around the time that the WMC and Bennett series' began. The book is extremely plot-driven but the characters lack depth and important details showing how Jacob and Megan make it to the finish line happen outside the reader's view or are just outright omitted. Perhaps if the Patterson of the late 1990's had a go at this subject matter it might have had more impact. As it stands, it's a watered-down reminder to not grow co-dependent on places like Amazon.

The Store was really good and I really enjoyed the story. However, The End, while good, didn't really do it for me. I feel like a chunk of information got left out. Other than that, it was good.

This is officially the last James Patterson book I will ever read. It's ridiculous. The characters are poorly developed, the power the store has is so insanely absurd it's laughable, and the plot wraps up way too conveniently in the end. The last several books by Patterson have all been disappointing and this one scraped bottom then dug a hole.

If you want to read an actual thriller about a huge company insinuating themselves deeply into the fabric of people's lives, do yourself a favor by skipping this book and picking up The Circle by Dave Eggers instead.

The Store by James Patterson and Richard DiLallo is a slow-paced and occasionally suspenseful near-future science fiction novel. Jacob and Megan Brandeis write books, but when they can’t get their latest one published, they end up getting jobs with the large, successful, and ultra-secretive Store. However, they get warehouse jobs with the Store in New Berg, Nebraska. Moving from New York to Nebraska is an adjustment for them and their two children. Additionally, they decide to write a controversial book about the Store. However, the Store is always watching.

I started and stopped this novel a couple of times, before I could sit down and read the story. After an engaging start, it faltered. However, it does have some interesting points and picks up the pace at the end. Themes include privacy, family, neighbors, and much more.

Overall, this is predictable, somewhat of a disappointment, and includes an abrupt ending.

I purchased a copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date was August 14, 2017.
