I don't know what I was hoping for but this wasn't it, an hour in and I feel like I've barely moved from the start of the book. Might come back to it someday but I don't think trying it on hard copy would help.

possibly the weirdest book i have ever read. awful ppl doing awful things but you can’t stop reading it??? and ur kinda like ok yes make another questionable choice sure let’s see what happens! i laughed out loud reading this. i can see a lot of ppl being like “this is the dumbest shit what the hell” but EYE personally ate it UP. weird weird weird. horror-lite as in it’s definitely horror but it’s also like why am i giggling?? really easy direct prose (which adds to the horrifying-lite nature??) made it a super quick read. this IS a beach read!!!! oh to read this book for the first time on the beach!! it wasn’t me but i wish it was!! a commentary on parasocial relationships, self help books, toxic relationships, etc.

i love unlikeable main characters. it makes the read more unique and interesting. i was hoping for something different than what i got, i had a really good plot idea in my head. it’s a really weird take on parasocial relationships, but i liked it. the horror aspect was confusing and didn’t make sense. the ending was fine, i was happy it was over quick.
Spoiler would of given it 5 stars if the the monster was a manifestation of alicia and remy’s shared obsession with jen, rather than just a random monster who has targeted people before. would have been more impactful idk. i’m tired i need to sleep

I can’t even come up with some silly quip to summarize my feelings, I need to think this over and maybe reread it before I can come up with any cohesive thoughts

The first 60% of this book gave me what the  book 'Bunny' gave a lot of other people, I was even on board for the start of the genre switch but that last section was just way way too out of left field. I saw bad reviews of this and while I was reading it I kept telling people to give it a try because I thought it was be the perfect blend of a commentary on parasocial relationships and weirdness but it just missed the mark. The saddest 2 stars ive even given, I thought this was a new favourite.
