Finished my third book of 2023 and it's this laugh-a-minute from Bill Gates 'How to Avoid a Climate Disaster'.
Was really impressed at the down-to-Earth approach and actually the realistic optimism but it did feel like reading an in depth check list of the many different facets to climate change.
Useful, yes, but lacking the intricate detail I'd actually like to know. There's little I didn't know in here.
I don't believe billionaires should exist but I wish those that unfortunately do were more like Bill Gates!

This was a nice summary of possible technologies that will help reduce climate change. There wasn't anything particularly new for me in it, but I appreciate the review anyway. I'm curious how much of the optimism expressed here is real versus an act put on because he decided it gets the best results.

BG is a well known figure in the climate change movement so was interested to learn his perspective. Unfortunately it was a letdown as I felt the book was very personal rather than discussing climate change in depth.

Denne overrasket meg litt. Hadde ikke tenkt at en bok om klimakrisen ville være interessant for meg, men den har gitt meg et nytt perspektiv på det hele. Jeg liker spesielt hvor godt Bill forklarer hvordan alt henger sammen uten å gå i for mye detaljer. Han klarer å fremstille hvor kompleks utfordringen er og hvor håpløst det kan føle, men allikevel adressere at det finnes løsninger og at det faktisk er håp. Anbefales om du føler du har mistet tråden litt i hva problemet faktisk er og hvordan vi kan løse det

There's a lot of valid criticism of the author in the comments but as a climate noob trying to be less of a climate noob, I learned a lot from this book about how the world (and a focus that I particularly appreciated – the global south) experiences and tries to cope/counteract the climate crisis.

It's really not at all terrible but it had a hard time keeping my attention in audiobook format, which is a little alarming considering how important the topic is. Maybe it would be best read in print. There's a lot I don't agree with here, including his support for the Green Revolution and chemical fertilizers ("use it, and use lots of it!"), and of course, his unwavering belief in the power of the Market and technology. However, this book is powerfully clear, and provides a hopeful roadmap. Quick, timely read.

I've been reading about climate change for years now, and this book the definite action plan on how to tackle this huge, global challenge. Moreover, Bill Gates excels at sharing a framework that makes you much better at understanding the relative impact of each initiative: concepts like Green Premiums, the 5 categories of emission activities that tally up to the 51 Billion tons of CO2 that we need take to zero.

I enjoyed this book much more than I expected. It gives a thorough overview about all the aspects and contributors of climate change. For this tough topic it was quite easy to read. I also liked that it looked at solutions. I will reread it at some point.
