What isn't there to like about a Jay Crownover book? This was her first indie release in 4 years, and I would say she did beyond awesome with it. The story line was so out of her element, she truly made it her bitch. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this story, I love all the characters, and the secondary characters really helped drive this book. Cyrus, the gruff older brother that is a cowboy yet not...yeah he is my book boyfriend, step away ladies. Leora is fiesty and goes on this trip with bestie to get her balls back. Boy did she get them back. Mayhem ensues. There is a true suspense to this book not seen in other Crownover books.
She fights with Cyrus, and it's kismet that the two would be attracted to each other. The characters are well thought out, and for someone that this is not their comfort zone, she knocked it out of the park as she does with all her work. I won't go into great detail about this book, because I hate reviews with spoilers, but this is a must read book.

I honestly have to say that I bought this book because it was written by Jay Crownover and that's it. I really didn't want to read it because the cover didn't make me want to read it. Another reason was that it was different in comparison to the other books she writes. BUT... I absolutely loved that it was different and wasn't something I was familiar with. The new characters and the new setting drew me in from the first page. I am in LOVE with Cy and Leo and cannot wait for the second book in this series.

I really liked it! Jay Crownover is an auto-buy author for me and I truly enjoy her stories! Can't wait for the sequel!

I usually like Jay Crownover books. Especially the Marked Men series.

But Retreat for me is like watching spaghetti cowboy movie with never ending cliffhanger. I end up weary and frustrated. Into the romance Miss Crownover throws is action, and suspense which does nothing to enhanced the story plot. The narrator is also done a very bad job reading it.

And it is 12 hours long! Liie I said, never ending cliffhanger.

I really liked this story about resurrecting yourself. Leo was burned rather badly by a man who lied to her. But she was also settling for someone she thought she could control. She was abandoned young by the person who is supposed to love you no matter what; her mother.
Cy was raised on a ranch and could not wait to escape until his father got sick and his brothers needed him.
I loved that he had been married to a woman he loved abc it didn’t work out but there was no crazy ex lurking about. He was also very honest about where his life was and what he was willing to give.
The sparks were clear and bright and I enjoyed the steam. Even the craziness that broke out was interesting. I don’t read a book by this author without expecting something crazy to happen.
I felt so much for Sutton and Em and look forward to knowing how their story turns out.
I also love her note to the readers at the beginning.

LOVED this one! A little slow to start but once it got going it was fantastic. Super steamy with smoking hot sexy scenes, a sexy cowboy and a bit of a suspense - this was such a great book! I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Reading the author's message at the beginning of this book helped me understand where Leo was coming from and prevented me from getting too frustrated with her character. Everyone was really well-written. I could feel everyone's pain at the situation they found themselves in. I definitely wasn't expecting the book to become what it became but I loved it. Really great job. I can't wait for Sutton's book. It better be with Emerys!

Very different from the other Jay books I have read but overall it was a good book. I liked the intensity of their relationship. Looking forward to the next in the series!
