Holy Moses on a pogo stick

Elle's new catchphrase, #justsaying.

I need to start off by mentioning something I really love about Lara Adrian. She just isn't afraid to give readers a healthy dose of reality and angst in her books. Although I am a complete sap and prefer everything to be pink, fluffy and glittery, life is not that. Lara Adrian isn't afraid to make people suffer, or even die, and that is a great thing! It adds so much to this series!

I really loved this book. Like, really loved it. Dante & Tess where such good characters but there was just something about it that made it impossible for me to give it 5 stars. The plot was a little 'eh' at times and as much as Dante and Tess where lovely together, neither of them where truly lovable separately. As much as I loved it, I don't think I could read it again either.

I would of loved to see more of the breed. This book seemed to be solely focused on Dante or Tess 98% of the time and what little other character development we got was Chase. I really loved Chase and I kinda wanted him together with Elise (who needed a good slap in my opinion. didn't have an ounce of sympathy for her which i suppose makes me a horrible person).

Actually now that I'm babbling on I think it was the lack of other characters that let this book down (shush, i have a thought process). At times it seem Adrian shoved in other characters, like Rio, to remind us there where other people in the Breed. They felt like fillers, more so than an actual part of Dante's story.

The ending didn't surprise me really. I knew that Chase had to be the one and that by that stage there was no real option for him to do anything other than what he did, but after all the talk about recruiting at the start, I was kind of hoping that they'd ask him to come back.

The last scene between Dante & Tess also made me want to punch something. It was just so sweet, which was something that I didn't really think their relationship was capable off. Neither of them where sweet people and although they clearly cared for each other, there was no need for the syrupy dialogue.

All that being said, I can't wait to continue on with this series.

Kiss of Crimson by Lara Adrian
Book #2 in Midnight Breed
5 Stars

Synopsis:
Veterinarian Tess Culver finds herself immersed in a secret world following a brief yet vivid encounter with the badly injured Dante, one of the vampire warriors locked in a fierce struggle against the rogue element of his race. The two soon find themselves bonded together by blood and passion and must work together to thwart the enemies in their midst.

Review:
I was hesitant to continue with the series but am really glad that I stuck with it as Kiss of Crimson is a definite improvement on the first book. Adrian’s characterization has improved greatly. Tess is an amazing heroine whose heartbreaking back story draws you in and Dante’s love for her is just awe inspiring – I particularly enjoyed the small twist regarding the connection between Dante’s special power and his relationship with Tess (you’ll just have to read it to see). For once, the sex scenes contribute to rather than detract from the emotional intimacy between the characters. I also enjoyed the subtle hints at stories to come, especially Tegan and Elise, and Rio whose condition is so distressful.

The plot line continues from the previous book but adds an extra dimension by including characters from the civilian vampire world and an issue that relates to the vampire society as a whole. My one small quibble is with the villain in the book who is not all that menacing and is actually quite pathetic.

Recommendation: Every new detail added in this book helped me to become more immersed in the world Adrian has created. I definitely recommend the series based on this book.

*Meinung:*

Kiss of Crimson by Lara Adrian: This book was about Dante. He is one of my favorite characters and I really like Tess. The only thing that made this book less than 5 stars was the whole Vet Clinic going under subplot. I just didn’t click with that but the rest was fantastic.

Ehh.. I was not overly fond of this one. I love the world the books are based in but so far I am not impressed with the stories. This one was kind of boring. And I feel like there was a lot of "filler". And I hate romances that don't get resolved until the very freaking end. Like with in the last 5 minutes of the book ( Audiobook) It drives me crazy because I always love all the stuff after they are openly in love with each other.

I did like the characters. I mean they were kind of dull but they were sweet and funny. And yeah thats really about it. That's pretty much how I feel about this book.. It's dull but it was still okay. I still enjoyed listening to it.
