I think this one is on my because I should have DNFd it when I learned that it was an age gap romance. As that isn't for me and I couldn't age them up as their age gap was the central problem.

Skyler has a hard life, she is practically homeless in her own home.
When Jude, the construction worker in the building next to her school, found out about her very abhorrent home life, he steps up and helps her.
This man did absolutely everything for this girl, including marry her, so she could have access to his medical insurance, so she could have the medical help she need it, and get better (Purple Hearts vibes

Gonna be honest this book really surprised me. Im not a big fan of age gaps, but i didn't mind this one. I don't know, i thought the pacing was really good. I enjoy how complex the story was. Even though it's a slow burn, I felt like the plot propelled it forward. There was never a time I was disinterested, and I think that both characters coming from hard backgrounds helped build the suspense of the story.  I think the author did a great job giving background on the characters and their personality traits. why they  are a certain way and why they've made certain choices.
For example, Lucky's need to fix things and help others stems from issues with his mother and sister. This eventually leads him to helping out Skylar. This reasoning came across as stronger to me because  now there's trauma linked to these choices. he's not just being nice to be nice. a lot of these little things combined to make you understand how both skyler and lucky could build a strong bond.

I was not expecting to like this book to much when I saw the age gap I was a little aprehensive. The story of Lucky and Skylar is more than a love story with an age gap it is about a girl who is struggling with her mental health and eating disorder when a man 16 years older takes her to the hospital they become friends and he gives her an opportunity to turn her life around.

The push and pull of these characters were great one minute they were all in and the next someone says they should not be together. I was so happy with the ending of this book and it makes me want to read more by this author. I gave this book 4.25 ⭐️ and 2.5 🌶️ it is definitely worth the read and the tension makes it so much better.

Happy reading everyone 📚
